What this site collects, why, and what it never does with it.

What gets collected

  • The Detention Slip sign-up: your email address (and a name, if you give one), plus the date you signed up.
  • The contact form: your name, email, the message, the reason you picked, the date, and your IP address (used to stop spam).
  • Workshop applications: the answers you type into the application, plus the date and your IP address.
  • Members: your username, email, name, the posts and messages you write, your settings, which threads you follow, and when you last logged in.
  • Spam protection: a short-lived count of how many times an IP address submitted a form, so one address can't flood the site.

Cookies and browser storage

The site sets a cookie called samx_sess to keep forms secure and to keep members logged in. If a member stays signed in, a second cookie, samx_keep, remembers them for up to a year (signing out removes it). There are no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels.

Your own browser also remembers a few small things for your convenience: day or night mode, whether you have seen the entrance exam, which checklist boxes you ticked in a field guide, and whether the confetti popper makes noise. That stays in your browser. It is never sent to the site.

Outside services

The homepage shows the newest public threads from genx.forum. The SAMXers server fetches that list itself, so your browser doesn't contact genx.forum unless you click a link. The "Hear it" button on the word of the day uses your own browser's built-in voice, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser asks Google for them and Google sees your IP address. Products are paid for on a checkout page that names the payment company handling it. Merch is sold and shipped by Etsy and its print partners under their own privacy policies. Links to other sites (GenX Alliance, SplitPartner and others) follow those sites' own policies.

What never happens

  • Your email is not sold, rented or traded.
  • Your messages are not shared with other members unless you post them on the Board.
  • No profiling, no data brokers.

Your choices

Every Detention Slip email has an unsubscribe link. To see, fix or delete what the site holds about you, or to close a member account, email samx@samxers.com and Sean will take care of it.
